The only thing that stopped me from infinite scrolling

The only thing that stopped me from infinite scrolling

There are five things that I now do, simply by using a pen which have stopped me from infinite scrolling and banished my crippling internet and social media addiction.

There is also one thing I now do with a pen and paper that I credit with completely overhauling my diet and changing everything that I eat. I wanted to share all of this with you in the hope that you find it useful.

If you are interested in trying out any of the things I talk about in this video, then start small. If you start with habit tracking, don’t try and track too many new habits as this will inevitably lead to failure. As with anything new, try and develop the habit in a very small way and nurture it from there.

I started doing all of these exercises using pen and paper, but I now use the Remarkable Paper Pro. This tool has really helped organise all of my documents, ideas and journaling. However, you absolutely do not need this to do any of the things I talk about in this video.

  1. For people reading this, I get that you may watch this and then go do something else. I used to do that too. But please, you haven’t accomplished anything till you have actually done them. So what I suggest is : take notes of what he said. You also don’t have to do this everything at once, start small with one of his advices. You can do it I am sure of that !

  2. Is no one going to talk about the device he is using? Im about ti go to college. Is this thing reliable? I hate normal tech for writing, but it fooled me a few times into thinking it was paper. It looks incredible and exactly what I might need. It looks like you get the benifit of free writing, with the added utility of easy erasing and customizing easily. Anyone have personal expirience with that thing??

  3. Cutting to the cat biting you at night is way too relatable! I’ve got two dogs who alternate as to who’s going to wake me up in the middle of the night!

  4. What is that electronic journal you are using to keep all our journalling together? Its really cool!

  5. maybe you already know this & choose to use a ruler anyway, but when you draw a line on a remarkable and hold at the end, it automatically straightens it. i have the remarkable 2, but I assume it’s the same for the pro 😀

  6. Great ideas❣️ the one about writing down what you eat before you eat it, could help with impulse eating

  7. What are those physical cards called that you used before switching to a tablet? I am just not comfortable switching to a remarkable or boox yet and my eyesight is not that great so mobile wont work either

  8. Very nice gesture of gratitude!

Connecting to sources and teachers who inspired!

    Note to self:

Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others!!!

  9. Me: "OMG this is exactly what I need, I can’t wait to get this started!"

    My ADHD: "Hold my beer"

Joking aside, some excellent points here, I will try it out. Habit building is important in our complex lives. Great production dude, very good indeed.

  10. “Story worthy” seems like a great conversation/social tool to have something to talk about and also make your life seem less boring and monotonous

  11. Unfortunately I’m not an organized person and this is an incredibly feminine thing to do, never going to happen.

  12. 😜Me too. I end up endlessly scrolling YouTube, adding to my 50+ playlists. That said, I’m planning to dig up a graph paper notebook and give this a try.

  13. I could be wrong but isn’t holding off on coffee til later in the day negatively correlated with your sleep by 10 goal?

  14. 0:19: Rounded back and the first signs of forward-leaning shoulders.
0:26: Your left and right hands are not at the same depth on the table, likely creating shoulder imbalance over time. Your left arm leans too far into the table space.
0:30: Your screen is too low. Position the top of the screen either at eye level or, even better, with your eye level at the top third of the screen. A screen that is too low usually creates more tension in the neck over time.

Similar habits caused me terrible pain over time, which is taking years to undo. Please correct them while you are still pain-free.

  15. this video was great. I love finding creators who are genuinely great and have smaller audiences! Subscribed. Keep it up.

  16. Thank you so much for sharing I will be taking away 3 tips :
-initiate pen to paper to record impulses instead of reaching directly for phones; analysisng triggers and making mods from there
    -write food Before eating
-big 3 which I’ve always had a hard time with but your video is motivating me to try again

  17. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience. I’ve just completed my first month doing this, kept it simple, appreciate you sharing your progress over the years, wow it’s a life changer, blessings!

  18. Really enjoyed this and the ideas you. Thanks for sharing. Now I’m going to go outside and take a walk.

  19. This is a concise analysis of your organization skills. It is remarkable to see your progress. It’s as if you’re built to do the most complicated tasks with ease.

  20. This seems incredibly exhausting to be this organized and that detailed in record keeping. So instead of "doom scrolling" I spend my whole day making sure I keep up with an endless number of tasks. It would be much better to have a simplified life where we aren’t trying to meet so many goals. Throw your phone into the ocean, crush your laptop under your car tires, sleep 8 hours, eat a healthy breakfast, go to work, get some exercise in nature, read for a bit, play with the kids, and do it all again. I mean seriously. Just think of how much time you have to spend making sure you get to a certain amount of steps each day. And then "Read 35 pages of a book" etc. If we would all just log off the internet and go live a little we would be much better off and more healthy than to put all this effort into trying to organize our overworked, over-scheduled, over tasked lives. Christ.

  21. I think these videos can sometimes be overwhelming when thinking "wow, I have to do all those things in one day when starting from nothing". But, my key takeaway: choose one, e.g. the reaching for your pen when tempted by scrolling, do it well and build discipline, and the new discipline around this one task will drive you to build the other habits 👊
